For decades, our programs operated in several different locations around Hartford. In our 2013 strategic plan we resolved to find a way to bring as many of our programs as possible under one roof. A central location will allow us to more effectively connect program participants, volunteers and community partners with each other and with the resources they seek.
To that end, last year we purchased a 1.4-acre, two-building property in the Parkville neighborhood of Hartford. We are excited to join this vibrant, culturally diverse community.
This spring we broke ground on renovations of the first building, the Hands On Hartford Community Center. We will transform the first floor into program, social enterprise, and office space and the second floor into 13 units of supportive housing. We will renovate the other building next year, turning it into 30 units of affordable housing.
We moved into our new home in February 2016, bringing our Community Pantry, Weekend Backpack Nutrition Program, Homeless Prevention/Housing Supports Program, and Faces of Homelessness under the same roof as our Central Office and Community Engagement Program.
