Faces of Homelessness Speakers' Bureau
The Faces of Homelessness Speakers' Bureau is a public education program that works to promote advocacy, understanding, and service. As people who have or are experiencing homelessness, the speakers in the Bureau are the real experts on homeless issues and we believe that their voices are essential in the fight to end homelessness.
Together, we travel around to diverse community groups to hold speaking events where we share our firsthand experiences and speak out against continuing injustices. We discuss in depth the issues of homelessness and ways to get involved.
Feet on the Street Walking Tour
For even more hands on insight into homelessness, schedule a "Feet on the Street" walking tour for you group! Feet on the Street takes the Faces of Homelessness presentation to the street: rather than speaking in a classroom, auditorium, or lecture hall, speakers take groups into the streets of Hartford and give a walking tour rich with personal insights. Along the way, speakers point out different landmarks in the city and different challenges people experiencing homelessness face throughout the day.
Feet on the Street also includes a shelter tour, where groups see the living quarters and gain insight to the shelter experience.

Originally launched in 1996 by the Washington DC based National Coalition for the Homeless (NCH), Faces of Homelessness has since expanded to 12 states across the country. NCH has been able to do this by partnering with local community groups and AmeriCorps VISTA, and in 2012, Hands On Hartford officially became a Faces of Homelessness chapter.
